Races in Dungeon Hero The races listed below are perfectly acceptable in Dungeon Hero. Other races are not acceptable as they are just too non-human to fit in. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gully Dwarf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gully Dwarves are on the lowest social rung of dwarf society; they are the sewer cleaners, stable boys, dirt farmers, etc. They are about the size of hill dwarves, and generally dirtier. Although not very intelligent, they have astounding memories, and are extremely hardy. Some exceptional specimens do exist, however, although even these will have to live with societal prejudice from at least their dwarven kin. Physically, they still have the stocky build commonly associated with their race, although hill dwarves are not as strong as their mountain dwelling counterparts. Height - min: 3' 10" (117 cm) Weight - min: 105 lbs (47 kg) max: 5' 3" (160 cm) max: 175 lbs (79 kg) Eyes: as human Hair: black to brown Skin: as human, with brown overtones Gestation Period: 10 months Age Categories: Infant: to 2 years Mature: 51-150 years Child: 3-15 years Middle Aged: 151-250 years Adolescent: 16-19 years Old: 251-350 years Young Adult: 20-50 years Venerable: 351-450+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristics CON 12 4 BODY 12 4 PD +1 1 ED +1 1 Increased characteristic maxima CON 23 3 BODY 22 2 PD 9 .5 ED 9 .5 IR vision, not with normal sight (-1/2) 3 Life Support: Increased life span (-1) 1 Disadvantages Decreased base characteristics DEX 9 -3 Decreased characteristic maxima DEX 18 -3 -1" Running (5" base) -2 Distinctive Features: Dwarf -10 Package Cost 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mountain Dwarf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mountain dwarves are the extremely hardy, imposing warriors that many think of when they picture dwarves. Dwelling mostly in their mountain undegrounds, they generally don't wan't much to do with the outside world. Their long time underground has given them a remarkable talent for never getting lost underground. Height - min: 4' 3" (129 cm) Weight - min: 135 lbs (61 kg) max: 5' 7" (170 cm) max: 225 lbs (102 kg) Eyes: black to brown Hair: black to dark brown Skin: as human, with brown overtones Gestation Period: 10 months Age Categories: Infant: to 2 years Mature: 51-175 years Child: 3-15 years Middle Aged: 176-275 years Adolescent: 16-19 years Old: 276-400 years Young Adult: 20-50 years Venerable: 401-525+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristic STR 11 1 CON 11 2 BODY 12 4 PD +1 1 ED +1 1 Increased characteristic maxima STR 23 1.5 CON 23 3 BODY 22 2 PD 10 1 ED 9 .5 IR vision, not with normal sight (-1/2) 3 Life Support: Increased life span (-1) 1 Bump of Direction, underground only 2 Disadvantages Decreased base characteristics DEX 9 -3 Decreased characteristic maxima DEX 18 -3 -1" Running (5" base) -2 Distinctive Features: Dwarf -10 Package Cost 5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ High Elf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Elves are among the longest lived of the humanoid races, living up to a millenia. High elves are mostly found living a pastoral existance, generally near human and other settlements. They are among the most commonly seen elf, but are by no means the only elves to associate with the rest of the world. They show a fascination and prowess with magic only exceeded by humans, and prefer scholarly ways over a warriors prowess. They most often live far from human and other settlements, prefering to deal with elves and halflings. Height - min: 4' 2" (127 cm) Weight - min: 70 lbs (32 kg) max: 5' 7" (170 cm) max: 125 lbs (56 kg) Eyes: light purple, blue, etc Hair: light Skin: fair, off-white to peach Gestation Period: 13 months Age Categories: Infant: to 4 years Mature: 201-500 years Child: 5-32 years Middle Aged: 501-800 years Adolescent: 33-40 years Old: 801-1100 years Young Adult: 41-200 years Venerable: 1101-1300+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristics DEX 11 3 INT 13 3 EGO 11 2 Increased characteristic maxima DEX 21 1.5 INT 23 1.5 EGO 23 3 IR vision, not with normal sight (-1/2) 3 Lightsleep 3 20+ pts EGO defense, only versus sleep and charm (-1) 10 Life Support: Greatly increased life span (-1/2) 2 Disadvantages Decreased base characteristics STR 7 -3 BODY 7 -6 PD -1 -1 ED -1 -1 Decreased characteristic maxima STR 14 -3 BODY 14 -6 PD 6 -1 ED 6 -1 Distinctive Features: Elf -5 Package Cost 5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wood Elf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wood (or wild) elves are the least "civilized" of the elven species. Although the same height as other elves, they are heavier, and therefore much stronger. They are not as reclusive as gray elves, but do tend to stay away from other humanoids except elves. Height - min: 4' 2" (127 cm) Weight - min: 95 lbs (43 kg) max: 5' 7" (170 cm) max: 155 lbs (70 kg) Eyes: earthy colors Hair: darker tones (brown, red) Skin: fair to human norm Gestation Period: 11 months Age Categories: Infant: to 3 years Mature: 151-400 years Child: 4-24 years Middle Aged: 401-600 years Adolescent: 25-30 years Old: 601-800 years Young Adult: 31-150 years Venerable: 801-1000+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristics DEX 11 3 IR vision, not with normal sight (-1/2) 3 +2" Running (8" base) 4 Lightsleep 3 10+ pts EGO defense, only versus sleep and charm (-1) 5 Life Support: Greatly increased life span (-1/2) 2 Disadvantages Decreased base characteristics STR 9 -1 BODY 9 -2 INT 9 -1 Decreased characteristic maxima STR 18 -1 BODY 18 -2 INT 18 -1 EGO 19 -1 PD 7 -.5 ED 7 -.5 Distinctive Features: Elf -5 Package Cost 5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Half-Elf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The result of elven and human parents, half-elves enjoy a good mix of both parents strengths. Stronger and hardier than an elf, they live some three centuries or so. Hardy little beings, they generally prefer a forested and hilly area, being both miners and foresters. They live nearly as long as elves, and have a great interest in all sorts of knowledge. Height - min: 3' (91 cm) Weight - min: 65 lbs (29 kg) max: 4' 2" (127 cm) max: 120 lbs (54 kg) Eyes: gem colors Hair: white, grey, brown Skin: tanned, yellow undertones Gestation Period: 11 months Age Categories: Infant: to 2 year Mature: 91-300 years Child: 3-14 years Middle Aged: 301-450 years Adolescent: 15-24 years Old: 451-600 years Young Adult: 25-90 years Venerable: 601-750+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristics INT 11 1 CON 11 2 Increased characteristic maxima INT 23 1.5 CON 23 3 IR vision, not with normal sight (-1/2) 3 Life Support: Greatly increased life span (-1/2) 2 +2 to all INT rolls 6 1/2 level shrinking 5 Disadvantages Decreased base characteristics STR 9 -1 EGO 9 -2 PRE 9 -1 COM 9 -.5 Decreased characteristic maxima STR 18 -1 PRE 19 -.5 COM 18 -.5 -1" Running (5" base) -2 Distinctive Features: Gnome -10 Package Cost 5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hairfeet Halflings ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hairfeet halflings, or hobbits, resemble short, overweight humans. Despite this, they are exceptionally quick and very rugged. Their small size prevents them from being terribly strong, but their natural mellowness generally helps them avoid fights (at least ones they don't like). Height - min: 2' 6" (76 cm) Weight - min: 50 lbs (23 kg) max: 3' 10" (117 cm) max: 100 lbs (45 kg) Eyes: as human Hair: as human Skin: as human Gestation Period: 9+ months Age Categories: Infant: to 1 year Mature: 34-68 years Child: 2-15 years Middle Aged: 69-101 years Adolescent: 16-21 years Old: 102-144 years Young Adult: 22-33 years Venerable: 145-199+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristics DEX 11 3 CON 11 2 EGO 11 2 Increased characteristic maxima DEX 21 1.5 CON 23 3 EGO 23 3 +2 to all PER rolls 6 Life Support: Increased life span (-1) 1 1/2 level shrinking 5 1 pd/ed resistant, loc 18 only (-2) 1 Disadvantages Decreased base characteristics STR 7 -3 BODY 9 -2 Decreased characteristic maxima STR 15 -2.5 BODY 18 -2 -1" Running (5" base) -2 -2" swimming (0" base) -2 Distinctive Features: Halfling -10 Package Cost 4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stout Halflings ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stouts are a bit larger than hairfeet, and somewhat stronger. They don't have the excellent perception or leathery feet of their smaller relatives, but they do possess excellent night vision. Stouts also do not have quite the relaxed attitude of hairfeet; this is balanced out out to an extent by their increased combat ability. Height - min: 2' 9" (84 cm) Weight - min: 65 lbs (29 kg) max: 4' (122 cm) max: 130 lbs (59 kg) Eyes: as human Hair: as human Skin: as human Gestation Period: 9+ months Age Categories: Infant: to 1 year Mature: 41-75 years Child: 2-15 years Middle Aged: 76-109 years Adolescent: 16-22 years Old: 110-153 years Young Adult: 23-40 years Venerable: 154-210+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristics DEX 11 3 CON 12 4 Increased characteristic maxima DEX 21 1.5 CON 23 3 EGO 23 3 Life Support: Increased life span (-1) 1 1/2 level shrinking 5 IR vision, not with normal sight (-1/2) 3 Disadvantages Decreased characteristic maxima STR 9 -1 BODY 9 -3 Decreased characteristic maxima STR 17 -1.5 BODY 18 -3 -1" Running (5" base) -2 Distinctive Features: Halfling -10 Package Cost 4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tallfellow Halflings ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tallfellows are taller than the hairfeet or stout, but are rather thin as halflings go. Their fair hair and lighter complexions makes them vaguely resemble elves, with whom they are good friends. A rare species, they are particularly intelligent, and have small interest in magic and things scholarly. Extremely curious and brave, they often spend more time travelling than they do at home. Thought to be a sub-race of halfling, they can cross with other halflings. Height - min: 3' (91 cm) Weight - min: 50 lbs (23 kg) max: 4' 3" (130 cm) max: 100 lbs (45 kg) Eyes: as human Hair: as human Skin: as human Gestation Period: 9 months Age Categories: Infant: to 1 year Mature: 34-68 years Child: 2-15 years Middle Aged: 69-101 years Adolescent: 16-21 years Old: 102-144 years Young Adult: 22-33 years Venerable: 145-199+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristics DEX 11 3 CON 11 2 PRE 13 3 Increased characteristic maxima DEX 21 1.5 CON 23 3 PRE 25 2.5 16 pts mental DEF, fear only (-1) 8 20 pts PRE, to defend against fear only (-1.5) 8 Life Support: Increased life span (-1) 1 1/2 level shrinking 5 Disadvantages Decreased base characteristics STR 8 -2 BODY 8 -4 Decreased characteristic maxima STR 16 -2 BODY 17 -3 -1" Running (5" base) -2 Insatiable Curiosity -10 Distinctive Features: Kender -10 Package Cost 4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Half-Giant ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Half-giants, a rare combination between human and giant (usually hill), are one of the strongest of the civilized races. Towering over just about everyone else, half-giants really stand out in a crowd. Curiously enough, the violent influence of their larger parent only rarely shows itself. Of the racial crosses, they look most like their human parent, if one ignores their size. Height - min: 6' 7" (201 cm) Weight - min: 200 lbs (90 kg) max: 8' 9" (267 cm) max: 440 lbs (199 kg) Eyes: as human, somewhat yellowish Hair: as human Skin: as human, somewhat swarthy Gestation Period: 8 months Age Categories: Infant: to 1 year Mature: 18-39 years Child: 2-8 years Middle Aged: 40-54 years Adolescent: 9-11 years Old: 55-79 years Young Adult: 12-17 years Venerable: 80-100+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristics STR 15 0 CON 13 6 BODY 13 4 STUN +5 5 Increased characteristic maxima STR 30 2.5 CON 23 3 BODY 23 2 PD 9 .5 ED 9 .5 REC 11 1 STUN 60 5 1 level Growth 5 +3" Running (9" base) 6 Disadvantages Decreased base characteristics DEX 8 -6 INT 9 -1 COM 8 -1 Decreased characteristic maxima DEX 15 -7.5 INT 18 -1 COM 16 -1 SPD 3 -5 Distinctive Features: Half-Giant -15 Package Cost 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Half-Orc ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Often shunned by both their parents cultures, half-orcs are nonetheless a powerful sub-species. Mixing the durability and strength of their orcish relative with the intelligence and cunning their human parent, they make quite a fearsome warrior. Height - min: 5' 1" (155 cm) Weight - min: 140 lbs (63 kg) max: 6' 7" (201 cm) max: 280 lbs (126 cm) Eyes: mostly black or brown Hair: as human, mostly black Skin: somewhat swarthy, greyish Gestation Period: 8 months Age Categories: Infant: to 1 year Mature: 18-39 years Child: 2-8 years Middle Aged: 40-54 years Adolescent: 9-11 years Old: 55-79 years Young Adult: 12-17 years Venerable: 80-100+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristics STR 11 1 CON 11 2 BODY 11 2 PD +1 1 Increased characteristic maxima STR 23 1.5 CON 23 3 BODY 23 3 PD 9 .5 IR vision, not with normal sight (-1/2) 3 Disadvantages Decreased base characteristics INT 9 -1 COM 8 -1 Decreased characteristic maxima INT 18 -1 COM 16 -1 Distinctive Features: Half-Orc -10 Package Cost 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Half-Ogre ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Slightly smaller than half-giants, half-ogres are powerful beings. Not quite as common as half-orcs, they have even more bias directed against them by their parents. Height - min: 6' 2" (188 cm) Weight - min: 170 lbs (77 kg) max: 7' 8" (234 cm) max: 350 lbs (158 kg) Eyes: mostly black or brown Hair: as human, mostly black Skin: somewhat swarthy, greyish Gestation Period: 8 months Age Categories: Infant: to 1 year Mature: 18-39 years Child: 2-8 years Middle Aged: 40-54 years Adolescent: 9-11 years Old: 55-79 years Young Adult: 12-17 years Venerable: 80-100+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristics STR 13 3 CON 11 2 BODY 12 4 PD +1 1 ED +1 1 Increased characteristic maxima STR 28 4 CON 23 3 BODY 23 3 PD 9 .5 ED 9 .5 +1" Running (7" base) 2 IR vision, not with normal sight (-1/2) 3 Disadvantages Decreased base characteristics DEX 9 -3 INT 9 -1 EGO 9 -2 COM 8 -1 Decreased characteristic maxima DEX 18 -3 INT 18 -1 EGO 18 -2 COM 16 -1 Distinctive Features: Half-Ogre -10 Package Cost 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Half-Troll ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A rare (and usually involuntary) union between human and troll produces the ugly half-troll. With a face only a mother could love, they do carry over certain trollish traits that are rather useful. Half-trolls are very strong, and possess great durability. In addition, they have a limited version of the troll's fabled regeneration ability. Height - min: 6' (183 cm) Weight - min: 170 lbs (77 kg) max: 7' 4" (224 cm) max: 350 lbs (158 kg) Eyes: mostly black or brown Hair: as human, mostly black Skin: somewhat greenish and swarthy Gestation Period: 6 months Age Categories: Infant: to 1 year Mature: 18-39 years Child: 2-8 years Middle Aged: 40-54 years Adolescent: 9-11 years Old: 55-79 years Young Adult: 12-17 years Venerable: 80-100+ years Ability Cost Increased base characteristics STR 12 2 BODY 12 4 REC +1 2 Increased characteristic maxima STR 25 2.5 BODY 23 3 PD 9 .5 REC 11 1 +1" Running (7" base) 2 1 BODY regeneration, per 5 hours (-1) 5 IR vision, not with normal sight (-1/2) 3 Disadvantages Decreased base characteristics INT 9 -1 EGO 9 -2 COM 6 -2 Decreased characteristic maxima INT 18 -1 EGO 18 -2 COM 12 -2 Distinctive Features: Half-Troll -10 Package Cost 5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Human ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Humans are the the wildcard of the races; they are incredibly adaptable to a variety of situations, and possess a certain strength of character that marks them from other races. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, humans are tremendously unpredictable. They often show some of the personality traits assigned to other races, but to a remarkable extreme. There are humans more violent than the most viscious half-orcs, more peaceful the most contented halfling, more warlike the most battle- hardened dwarf, more mystical than the eldest gray elf, and more ingenius than the most creative gnome. Never contented with what they have, many non-human sages have noted that history is not written by the victors, but rather by the humans who, invariably, seem to be deeply involved in the currents of the time...
