Official PlanetX Spam Policy

PlanetX maintains a Zero Tolerance Policy on spam. Why? Well, I've been a net critter for quite some time, and I "grew up" with the idea that net access is a priviledge, not a right, but that one should share one's priviledges. When the predictions came of what the future might hold, I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. I was disappointed.

This is my personal machine. I primarily use it for programming, a mail drop, news & such personally. However, it is the nature of Unix systems that they can be easily shared. As such, I've given access beyond myself to others... those who I know personally, and feel I can "force" to be good if they get out of line (hopefully, an unlikely prospect in the first place).

All of my users are under the understanding that having this access is a priviledge, and that they are not only to never spam, but to refrain from causing trouble on the net. This means no extensive flamewars, no network attacks of any kind, nothing. This was explained to each and is the basis of their access.

Thus, Zero tolerance. If any PlanetX user knowingly sends out spam or causes the problems mentioned above, their access is immediately removed. I don't make any money off of them, I only derive pleasure from giving cool people net access... breaking the promise makes these people uncool, and then pleasure is derived from denying them net access.

Since the above begs the question, if the user in question can PROVE that the spam they sent was unintentional, and the party inflicted understands and accepts this, the PlanetX user gets a one time reprieve. If it happens again, they're history.

I don't like being such a fascist on this, but having to do so only strengthens my resolve to make sure the correct thing happens.

Once upon a time, we had an abuse address set up at this sight. Then, some gits started spamming it, and spam to the address just mushroomed. So, sorry, we have no abuse alias. We're not a commercial site, so it was just provided as a freebie to the net at large if they had any woes. Blame it's loss on the slime who do this kind of stuff.

There are a few addresses that if you are a savvy net type you'll know how to get to; System Admins & such should know what I'm talking about. So, my geeky brethren, if you really need to get a hold of us, you'll know how.
