PlanetX was something of a collection of gamers in Santa Cruz. We were, by no stretch of the word, the only gamers here, but I think we were the only ones with this much backing. :) We were sort of the leftovers from the Champions/Hero system popularity Explosion (+1/2, extended area to most of UCSC). I say "were", as there isn't much activity anymore. Just updating this page alone is something I haven't done since... I think the 20th century.
We're not in the practice of giving out accounts, web space, or what have you to the general populace; see The Armory, among others, for that. To this day the armory still gives accounts. John reports that the number of users there is on the steady decrease, and thus passes an era. Folks that ended up gaming with us were another case entirely.
Hmmm... well, remember those old rubber monster movies out of Japan in the 60s & 70s? One of the films,
was the home of some, well, really goofy aliens with pointy spikes on their heads and devo glasses. The monsters in this so-cheesy-it's-a-classic film were

and my all time favorite,
(Sadly, even though there are fairly good movies in this series after the not-so-good Godzilla 1984, most if not all haven't made it here in any real way. You might find them in a rental place, but outside of the supposedly upcoming American Godzilla, there no real chance of finding the above in a theatre)
Well, when looking for a system name way back when, I ended up going for ghidora, which ended up being our main server when we went & got ourselves a domain name. Forementioned movie is pretty much a classic, and what with the bunch of weird gamers & other types here, it seemed apropos. As for why, well, a reason will eventually be known...
That given, this is hardly a fair treatment of kaiju-eiga, or giant monster movies. Toho and Daiei are the major Japanese contributors to this field, but the world abounds with giant rubber monsters. Sometimes, life is good.
