I decided a number of years ago to convert AD&D to the Hero system.
On the other hand, it seemed to be at least fairly popular. I've run one successful campaign with it. I've had others: a semi-gritty one called Midland, and another more optimistic called Socaldia.
Here's some links to the stuff, which I've titled Dungeon Hero.
Here's what's available:
Some
documentation on the system
The Dungeon Hero
bestiary.
A fairly large grimoire of
spells
An items
listing.
And finally, a specialized
character sheet for the system.
06/02/02: Stirring the dust...
Well, it's been a while since I've been here. As you can see, pretty much
nothing has changed; DH is done, at least as done as it will likely ever
get. I will leave it posted here should anyone have any interest in it.
There isn't much point to doing any more work on it; the d20 system seems
to have learned quite a bit from point based systems, and Hero, just releasing
it's 5th ed book, may not be able to pull itself back from the brink (or at
least not sufficiently). I've actually been away from gaming for a while,
although I've just sort of come back, which is why I didn't post this earlier.
Thanks to all those who sent me kind messages over the years, it really made
my days. Perhaps I'll dust off the system from time to time and have a go
at it - if not, what a long, strange conversion it's been.
06/01/00: Tick tock tick tock... Cleanup always takes so long... in the meantime, a couple of minor things in the pipe. A player/co-GM asked for the Barbarian to be written up. I'm not super happy with it - it might be too tough - but I don't think it completely sucks either. The FAQ progresses ever so slowly, and I'm about half done with movement checks (minor changes, but I want to release it all at the same time). There's been several spells contributed over the years, and I made the mistake of mixing them in with the standard spells. I'm going to juggle them out of alpha order & put them at the end of spell lists.
05/11/00: Dungeon Hero Complete? Maybe...
I just finished the last of the uniques. Whew! This also means...
I'm finished with DH. Well, finished is something of a generous term; I still
should go back & clean stuff up (consistent movement rates is something I need
to have a quick check on). But still, for the first time I can actually say
that no new stuff is on the plate. I began this project in mid-late 1991... to
actually have it done, even with the half-assed time commitment I've put into
it, boggles the mind.
I'll still be hacking bits here & there, working on cleanup, the FAQ, perhaps
even giving it a real production value. But now, perhaps, I can spend a bit
more time on my 2.5 campaigns. I've just finished repacking the files to
include the uniques, even though they are likely to get a quick bit of work
to differentiate stats better; I think I can say they've gone from alpha to
early beta (I threw one of them, Yeenoghu against my players, and it wasn't
a disaster).
04/08/00: Been quiet for a while; I've been working on the uniques. It looks like I just have the Devils left (up to Mammon on them), then other remaining ones: Primus (not the band), Solars (not unique, but their level), and a re-check on the Tarrasque. I'm also working on a FAQ; a pointer to that eventually.
